The Dolomites are a mountain range that form part of the Southern Limestone Alps , in northeastern Italy. On one of the days in Venice we joined a group and spent a day in these mountains. There are few words to describe how incredible this trip was…..so I will try not to be long winded.
As we got higher into the mountains things began to look more Alpine.
We made a coffee stop at the village of Pieve di Cadore, birthplace of the Renaissance painter Titian.
Next we drove to Lake Santa Caterina.
We stretched our legs at this pond.
Then we drove to Lake Misurina for lunch. This is where the speed skating events were held during the 1956 Winter Olympics which was the last time Olympic speed skating events were held on natural ice

After lunch, we continued on to Cortina d’Ampezzo, a trendy ski village.
As we headed back down the mountains to Venice we made a stop on this beautiful hillside.
The drive back was as majestic as the drive up.

This excursion is worth the time and the money. We used this company, booked through Viator. The driver/guide were great. The food was great. Just wish we could have had more time at each stop but then it would have been a 2 day trip.

The whole trip was amazing. We refer to it as the ridiculous tour. Everything was ridiculously beautiful, or delicious, or amazing.
