Feng Huang Gu Cheng is located in the western part of Hunan Province near the border with Guizhou. Legend has it that two Phoenix flew over the area and found it so beautiful that they did not want to leave.
Most of the people here are Miao and much of life functions as it has for hundreds of years. Women still wash clothes in the Tou Jiang River and men still fish its waters. There is also a booming tourist industry and while the town is fairly quiet during the morning, it gets really busy at night.
Many consider it one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in China. And it is.
