People’s Square is a large square with park areas that is also the site of Shanghai’s Municipal Headquarters.

Before 1949, the site was a racetrack.  In 1952, the Shanghai Museum first opened to the public in the former racetrack clubhouse and then was rebuilt at its current location in 1996.
