Oui, Oui…The Former French Concession

The French Concession was an area of Shanghai set aside in 1849 for a French settlement.   It remained under French control until 1943.

This weekend we explored a very small part of the neighborhood.

Bicycles and mopeds are popular forms of transportation here.  In an effort to cut the pollution, the mopeds are all electric and fairly silent…until they come up behind you and lay on the horn.

There are also several bike rental companies.  Bikes are lined up on corners and parked along streets, ready for a rider.

The architecture is a mix of new and old.

One of the things I LOVE about Shanghai is all the green space and parks.  We found this little gem accidentally.

I haven’t seen one of these in a while.
