One of the highlights of our trip to Lombok, was a hike through the forest, in search of waterfalls.

We ventured to the north side of Lomboc to the foothills of Mt. Rinjani. Our goal: Sendang Gile and Tiu Keleg, two beautiful waterfalls, back in a forest canyon. As we started out, the view was stunning.

Water rushing, birds chirping, monkeys chattering, sunlight shining through the canopy.

The first large waterfall is about half an hour through the forest.

with a nice spot to rest

We continued on for another half hour

This bridge is also an aqua duct that ran along part of the trail. The local boys (and one brave tourist) jump in on one end and ride under the bridge, screaming the whole way. Free waterslide.

After crossing the river several times, we made it to our final destination.

We had a great guide.

We waded around a bit (didn’t think to wear swimsuits), had some cookies and bananas, and then headed back.

On our way back, we met a puppy and more monkeys. Our guide was not happy about the monkeys. I guess when you see them everyday, they aren’t so novel – just a menace.
